Nanotechnology is science, engineering, and technology conducted at the nanoscale, which is about 1 to 100 nanometers; it is the manipulation of matter on an atomic, molecular, and supramolecular scale. In the recent 5 years, there were high-scale improvements in terms of projects and patents in nanoscience.
In 2015, The Centre for Nano-diagnostics at Slovak University of Technology was created as a part of “Science City Bratislava”, the University Science Park project. The project has helped to renovate and modernise various university buildings and laboratories and creates centres for scientific excellence. In total, there were 2 parks created which received 42 million euro investments from the EU funds; (Operational Programme for Research and Development) as well as some funding from the government and STU budgets.
The reason for creating the center was to cooperate with other scientific teams at universities and the Slovak Academy of Sciences, and private companies that focus on R&D in nanotechnology.
The new centre for Nano-diagnostics has new devices and equipment which enables the study of the structure of materials at the atomic level (smaller than a human hair).
The center is the first laboratory in Slovakia that has an atomic resolution analytical transmission electron microscope with such parameters. The main advantage of the device, in addition to the extremely high resolution, is a combination of top-class complementing devices.
“Nanotechnologies are now a key scientific discipline. The number of applications in various industrial sectors across the world has increased, e.g. in cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, in waterproof/abrasion-resistant clothing or clothing with antibacterial properties, in windows cleaning preparations which are due to nanoparticles resistant to frost and fog.
There are also prospective materials for microelectronics and green energy. To develop these new materials we need to know their structure, chemical composition at the atomic level and their interaction with living organisms“
said Mária Čaplovičová from the Centre for Nano-diagnostics.
The Nanotechnologia.sk, produces some products that solve practical problems related to effective surface protection, as well as deep surface cleaning, more durable nano impregnation of surfaces. These products include nano car glass protection, nano textile, nanopoliture of car paint, foamy Nano Shampoo and other ecological products.
NanoProm is a Slovak Nanotechnology company that manufactures products from Antibacterial functional thermal underwear to cleaners, protection for surfaces and various nanotechnological car products
Nanotrading sro is one of the first companies in Slovakia that deals comprehensively with material nanotechnology, promotion, placement and use of nanotechnology and nanoproducts in various sectors.
Nanotrading manufactures products for complex easy to clean and airgel applications for various spheres of use, analyzes and searches for new innovative possibilities, areas and practical applications of nanotechnics, of course also in everyday life.
The products of Protec includes cleaners and additives for cars and motorcycles, air conditioners, tools and equipments, car cosmetics, interior disinfections, evaporator cleaning etc.
In conclusion, the nanotechnology industry in Slovakia is a relatively less explored sector and is open to both local and international producers and importers.
